About Us:
 

Following a large haz-mat incident that took place in the City of Somerville, MA in 1980 several organizations began to evaluate the capabilities that existed for response to hazardous materials incidents in the Commonwealth.  They included, but were not limited to: Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts, Fire Chiefs’ Association of Massachusetts,  Massachusetts Fire Training Academy  and

the Massachusetts Fire Training Council.  The result of this evaluation was a plan to provide regional hazmat response throughout the Commonwealth. In 1990 the first of six teams was trained and all six teams were in service by the end of 1992. 

The Massachusetts Association of Hazardous Materials Technicians was established in 1991 to represent the members of the regional teams, who are career firefighters  across  the  state.   These  270 firefighters

represent nearly 125 fire departments, where they are on call to respond to incidents whenever they occur. The teams have responded to thousands of hazmat incidents of all types since their inception.

MAHMT Announces 19th Annual Hazmat Training Conference!

The Mass. Association of Hazardous Materials Technicians is hosting the 19^th annual hazmat training conference for members of the six regional hazmat teams and other interested persons. This year the event will be held at the Radisson Hotel Plymouth Harbor in Plymouth, MA on 9/15 – 9/17, 2010. The three-day event will consist of general sessions each morning in addition to breakout sessions of various lengths focused on many topics of interest in the hazmat field.

As in the past we encourage equipment and services providers to support our efforts by purchasing a vendors table. The minimal fee is used to help us offset the cost of producing this very worthwhile seminar. Attendees may attend any of the educational sessions, lunch and break refreshments are included in the fee.
